OCHELO

The story

A single frame, a thousand words.

Silhouette in the studio doorway
We make images that evoke imagination, and give real meaning to the saying that a single frame can hold a thousand words.

Roman Ochelo, founder

Ochelo began in Leeds as a small studio near the city centre, working with creatives, brands and individuals who wanted images that stood out rather than blended in. The early work was beauty, editorial and advertising: portraits for professional portfolios, campaign imagery, music marketing and fashion.

Over time the practice moved towards long-form collections. Each one starts as a written idea, a mood and a model, and is then staged, lit and composited into a single finished frame. The subjects are often women, and the themes are deliberately heavy: mental health, faith, the climate, the tension between the body and the space it sits in.

The five collections on this site were made between 2018 and 2020 and were first published together in 2019. They remain the core of the studio's portfolio, and the starting point for every new commission.
